Chinese state airline Air China is entering the Georgian market and will start regular flights three times a week between Tbilisi and Ürümqi from autumn. The delegation of the airline informed the Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Mariam Kvrivishvili, about this decision and other news. Director of the Civil Aviation of Georgia, Givi Davitashvili and the Head of the Union of Georgian Airports, Irakli Karkashadze also attended the meeting.
As the Deputy Minister explained, the signing of the Agreement on Strategic Cooperation between Georgia and the People's Republic of China gave a great impetus to the strengthening of trade and economic relations. According to Kvrivishvili, after the signing of the Agreement, the visa-free regime was implemented, which gave an additional incentive to the ongoing negotiations with the Chinese airlines, and the successful completion of the process with the Air China was greatly accelerated.
"We agreed with the Air China leaders that we will continue to increase the awareness of Georgia in China in order to increase the number of tourists. We hope that the list of Chinese cities to perform direct flights from will be increased. Among them, we expect to have direct flights from Beijing and Shanghai" – Mariam Kvrivishvili noted.
"We will do our best to further develop the existing strategic cooperation between our countries, in terms of trade and economic relations, which will have a positive impact on the strengthening of our country's economy in general, as well as the tourism industry and civil aviation" – the Deputy Minister added.
