Levan Davitashvili and the President of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, the founder of “Emirates Group”, Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, discussed the prospects of deepening of cooperation in the aviation sector at a meeting in Dubai, which was also attended by the Deputy Ministers of Economy and Sustainable Development – Mariam Kvrivishvili and Genadi Arveladze.
Prospects of scheduling more direct flights from Dubai, which will stimulate the strengthening of Georgia’s tourism and aviation sector were discussed during the meeting.
As the President of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority noted, the decision of the Georgian government to simplify the visa policy was very effective and correct since the visa-free travel regime was established for Georgian citizens in the United Arab Emirates as well. As Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum noted, it is important that Georgia has an exceptionally liberal air policy, which has a positive effect on the tourist flows and is directly related to the increase in flights.
The growth of investments from the Emirates in Georgia and the opportunities that local, leading companies have for strengthening and expanding Georgia’s aviation business was also covered during the meeting. The parties agreed to continue active cooperation in this direction.
It should be noted that in 2023, the number of passengers from the United Arab Emirates exceeded half a million. At this stage, 4 airlines - flydubai, Air Arabia, Air Arabia Abu Dhabi and Wizz Air Abu Dhabi operate 50 direct flights per week. It should also be emphasized that the main carrier from the United Arab Emirates is flydubai, which is among the top 10 airlines by the number of passengers transported to Georgia.
