Civil Aviation and Maritime Transport Accident Incident Investigation Bureau
 

According to Government resolution № 269  2012 July 18, in Georgia was established independent body - the civil aviation and maritime transport accident/incident investigation bureau (TAIIB), which is separate from the Civil Aviation Agency and Maritime Transport Agency. 

TAIIB is directly under the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development  of Georgia. The Bureau is functionally independent and has unlimited authority during  investigation.

The main purpose of TAIIB is to conduct  technical investigations of aviation accidents/ incidents and maritime casualties.

The sole objective of the investigations is the prevention of aviation and maritime accidents and incidents, It is not the purpose of this activity to apportion blame or liability.

Bureau is guided by  the following local legislation: 

  • Air Code 
  • Maritime Code
  • Law of Georgia On Management and Regulation of the Field of Transport
  • “Regulation on  the civil aviation and maritime transport accident/incident investigation bureau” (Order of the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development № 1-1/1897 2012 November 22) 
  • "Maritime accident/Incident  investigation procedure" (Order of the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development № 1-1/183 2013. July 15)
  • "Aviation accident/incident investigation procedure" (Order of the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development  № 1-1/242  2013 September 4)
  • “Manual on Aviation Accident and Incident Investigation Policies and Procedures” (Order of the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development № 1-1/282 2013. October 3)

In addition to local legislation also uses the international aviation and maritime conventions, codes, regulations, directives and best practice.
