British Low-cost Airline EasyJet Starts Operations in Georgia – First Geneva-Tbilisi Direct Flight Performed

Another international airline has entered the Georgian aviation market – the British airline easyJet performed its first direct flight from Geneva to Tbilisi. The airline is to introduce this route twice a week, while startin April 1st, direct flights will also be performed to London and Milan. Direct regular flights from London Luton and Milan Malpensa airports are also scheduled to be performed twice a week.

The British multinational low-cost carrier easyJet is one of the world’s largest, the 11th largest airline, flying to more than 1 000 destinations in 35 countries.

easyJet's entry into the Georgian aviation market was preceded by lengthy and intensive negotiations involving the United Airports of Georgia, the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Tbilisi International Airport hosted a reception to mark the easyJet’s operations in Georgia, which was attended by the British Ambassador to Georgia, Gareth Ward, the Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Mariam Kvrivishvili, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Aleksandre Khvtisiashvili, the General Director of United Airports of Georgia, Levan Moseshvili, the Head of the Georgian National Tourism Administration, Maia Omiadze, representatives of TAV Georgia and easyJet, as well as other leaders of the Georgian aviation industry.

As noted by the event participants, the entry of another international, branded airline into Georgia will contribute to raising the country’s profile and strengthening the tourism sector.
