Belgian company Jan De Nul will carry out the construction works of the marine infrastructure of the Anaklia Deep Sea Port – the First Vice Prime Minister, the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development spoke in detail about this decision at a briefing held in the government administration. According to Levan Davitashvili, the winning company in the international tender is one out of so-called “big four” and it specializes in marine construction works.

"We have completed the selection process of the port construction company. Jan de Null has the world's largest specialized fleet to be used in port construction works, both dredging and appropriate breakwater installation. This is the basic, universal maritime infrastructure, which will be useful in case of further development of the port, in different configurations. Therefore, we will work with the company on the contract during the month of August - I think it will take several weeks to see active construction works in the Anaklia territory from September," – the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development stated.

It should be noted that the Belgian company Jan de Null was founded in 1938, its turnover is 2,5 billion euros and it employs over 7 000 people. The company has extensive experience working on international marine infrastructure projects - among them, it was actively involved in the Panama Canal expansion project. In addition, it has implemented or is implementing projects in various regions of the world, including Europe, the Gulf, Africa, etc.

According to the assessment of the First Vice Prime Minister, the cooperation with the company Jan de Null will allow the Georgian government to put into operation the first container ships in the port of Anaklia in 2029, which is an important contributing factor in terms of the development of the "Middle Corridor" connecting Europe and Asia.

"This will allow us to further develop our port infrastructure, promote infrastructure improvement of the Middle Corridor, increase competitiveness. Of course, this will make Georgia and the Middle Corridor route even more attractive" – Levan Davitashvili added.
